A BBC commentator described Polish ski mountaineer Iwona Januszyk as “having quite a tantrum” after suffering heartbreak in Italy this morning.
It followed her elimination from the women’s sprint at the Winter Olympics, where she finished last.
Matt Chilton made the remark during live coverage of the ski mountaineering competition as cameras captured the 33-year-old athlete in visible distress after her race.
Januszyk was shown dropping to the ground and screaming in frustration.
Chilton told viewers: “There’s some emotional scenes right now.
“Iwona Januszyk is in floods of tears at the end of her heat.”
The commentator then added: “Finished last of the six and is having quite a tantrum here. Iwona Januszyk, Polish athlete.”
The Polish competitor had just completed heat three of the women’s sprint, where her last-place finish ended her Olympic campaign at the first hurdle.

Januszyk crossed the finish line 17.2 seconds behind heat winner Giulia Murada of Italy, placing sixth and last in her group.
The result meant immediate elimination from the competition, with only the top three finishers from each heat advancing to the semi-finals.
Following her race, the Polish athlete was seen lying flat on her back, overcome with emotion and in tears.
Fellow competitor Ana Alonso Rodriguez, who had secured second place in the same heat, approached Januszyk to offer comfort and help her back to her feet.

BBC cameras continued to capture the scene as the distraught skier dropped to the ground once more, prompting Chilton’s initial observation about the “emotional scenes” unfolding.
Murada, Alonso Rodriguez and third-placed Maria Costa Diez all progressed from heat three into the semi-final round.
The semi-final races that followed produced gripping competition, with France’s Emily Harrop dominating one heat in a time of 3 minutes 5.57 seconds.
Switzerland’s Marianne Fatton claimed second spot in that race, while Alonso Rodriguez secured third to book her place in the final.

Costa Diez, however, saw her Olympic hopes end after finishing sixth and last in the semi-final.
In the parallel semi-final, Margot Ravinel took victory ahead of Tatjana Paller in second, with Murada’s third-place finish proving sufficient to advance.
The final is scheduled for 12.55pm GMT this afternoon, featuring Harrop, Fatton, Alonso Rodriguez, Ravinel, Paller and Murada competing for medals.
Costa Diez was the only athlete from Januszyk’s original heat to miss out on the showpiece event after her semi-final elimination.
