UMERKOT:

The wheat crisis in Umerkot district has intensified, causing a sharp increase in flour prices, which have reached Rs135 per kilogram.

Officials from the Food Department are accused of reducing the monthly wheat quota for flour mills, leaving mills with only 14 bags per spon, far below the actual requirements. As a result, flour shortages have driven open market wheat prices to Rs 4,060 per 40 kg bag, while official rates have surged to Rs 5,200 per 40 kg bag.

Sources claim that the department allegedly removed 24,000 bags of wheat from govt warehouses in Umerkot and sold them to selected traders.
