Viral Manchester United superfan Frank Ilett has shut down suggestions that he’s made millions as a result of his hair challenge.

The Red Devils supporter has been taking part in a campaign where he won’t get a trim until the fallen giants win five matches in a row.

The challenge started 16 months ago back when Erik ten Hag was manager, with Ruben Amorim since coming and going. Michael Carrick is the man in the dugout these days, having taken charge on an interim basis last month.

Finally, after 495 days, Frank’s challenge could end this evening when United go up against West Ham.

The Red Devils have won their last four matches, beating Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham during Carrick’s brief time in the role.

With Frank going viral, some have suggested that he’s made millions as a result of his new-found fame.

However, speaking to The Sun, the 29-year-old insisted that isn’t the case.

“I’m definitely not the millionaire that some people think I am,” he clarified.

“There’s been a lot of talk about making millions, but that isn’t the case.

“It’s not as well paid as some people think. But that’s not why I started it in the first place.”

Frank has often made it clear that when he does finally have a haircut, his locks will be donated to charity.

The United supporter, who is from Oxford but currently lives in Spain, will donate his locks to the Little Princess Trust, a UK charity providing wigs to children who lost their hair due to illness.

Frank plans to live steam tonight’s big match at the London Stadium. He admits that his hair has caused him problems and admits he’ll be glad to finally cut it all off.

“The real pain has been not being able to see properly. It’s actually lucky that I wear glasses because the frames kind of prop my fringe up a bit,” he said.

“I can hardly see most of the time now. It needs to get gone.”

Frank added: “I’m also doing a fundraiser for them [the charity].

“I think we’ve raised about £6,000 for them so far. It’s a really great charity, with great people there too.

“The length of my hair is 25cm now, which is thankfully long enough to be able to donate.”

United’s season appeared to be in crisis just a month ago, with Amorim departing after an explosive press conference following a 1-1 draw with Leeds.

The former Sporting Lisbon boss suggested that he wasn’t getting enough support from his superiors at Old Trafford, with Carrick drafted in as his replacement.

Frank feels his hair will soon be gone at long last, though, having been impressed by the job the 44-year-old has done so far.

“I think it’s almost written in the stars for Carrick to beat his former side West Ham,” he stated. “He obviously played for Spurs as well and that was the last game. It feels like the perfect ending, really.”
