Prosecco is supposed to go out with a celebratory bang — but not like this.
More than 900,000 bottles of Kirkland Signature Prosecco have been urgently recalled.
Officials warned that unopened bottles can spontaneously explode, spraying glass and wine without warning.
The recall, issued by F&F Fine Wines International, comes after at least ten reports of bottles shattering on their own.
One customer has already been injured by flying shards, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The affected wine — sold in green glass with purple foil — retailed for about eight dollars across a dozen Midwestern states between April and August 2025. The barcode is 196633883742 and the Costco item number is 1879870.
Costco first warned customers in a September letter, telling them not to open or return the bottles to stores. Now a formal recall has been issued.
Shoppers should wrap the unopened bottle in paper towels, seal it in a plastic bag, and throw it in the trash to avoid injuries from exploding glass.

The CPSC says consumers can contact Ethica Wines for instructions on getting a full refund through Costco.

The prosecco alert is the latest in a growing wave of Costco recalls.

Costco has also issued a recall for Anker Power Bank’s A1257 models after experts discovered the lithium-ion battery cells could explode and cause burns.
Another alert was issued for BowFlex adjustable dumbbells after more than 100 injuries were reported.
Costco also sent out notices for 18-packs of Topo Chico Mineral Water after bottles were found contaminated with a dangerous bacteria that could lead to blood infections.
