LODHRAN:
Two police constables have been accused of sexually assaulting a woman and blackmailing her by making indecent photographs, prompting the district police officer to suspend both officials and order strict legal action.
One of the accused has been arrested, while the other has obtained interim bail until February 10.
According to an FIR registered at City Police Station Lodhran, the complainant, a resident of Sherpur, stated that she became acquainted with two police constables, Ghulam Rasool and Zahid Shah, through TikTok about two years ago.
She alleged that three months ago, Constable Zahid Shah called her to meet him near the bypass and took her to a house, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The complainant further alleged that around two and a half months ago, Constable Ghulam Rasool called her to Canal View Park, where he also allegedly raped her and took indecent photographs.
She claimed that Ghulam Rasool later used those photographs to blackmail her and repeatedly assaulted her.
The woman alleged that the accused eventually showed the indecent pictures to her husband, who subsequently divorced her.
Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Tahir Nadeem said that Zahid Shah is posted at Police Lines (PC) Multan, while Ghulam Rasool is serving in the Special Branch.
Following registration of the case, police arrested Constable Ghulam Rasool and sent him to jail on judicial remand. Constable Zahid Shah has secured interim bail until February 10.
Both constables have been suspended from service.
Police have also conducted the medical examination of the complainant and sent samples to the laboratory.
Officials said the medical report would help confirm the allegations of sexual assault.
District Police Officer Captain Ali bin Tariq took strict notice of the incident and said that the law is equal for everyone.
“No police official will be given any leniency on such serious allegations,” he remarked.
The DPO confirmed that legal proceedings are being carried out on the basis of evidence and assured that the investigation would remain transparent, impartial and strictly in accordance with merit.
He further said that if the accused are proven guilty, they will be awarded strict punishment under the law.
