Travis Kelce has faced backlash after making fun of Pope Leo, just over a week after he made history by becoming the first Pope from America.

On his New Heights podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs star made a joke about the new Pope that has not landed well with fans.

In the episode, he started by saying: “I want to know how a young lad from the streets of Chicago…”

His older brother Jason then interrupted by saying: “Well, obviously can’t have s*x, that’s a big rule.”

The talking point came as the world saw a new Pope elected last week.

Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as the first US-born Pope and is known as Pope Leo XIV.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

He is a 69-year-old from Chicago, spending his career as a missionary in South America.

World leaders were quick to offer their congratulations to the new Pope, with Pope LEO replacing Pope Francis – who passed away at the age of 88 at Domus Sanctae Marthae in Vatican City on April 21. His death came just 24 hours after his last public appearance, which came on Easter Sunday.

Travis Kelce has had a busy week after accidentally leaking where the Chiefs would be playing for their opening game of the season, before the NFL had released the full game schedule.

He leaked that the Chiefs will be taking the field in Brazil for their first game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Kelce hit out at that decision by saying: “This isn’t out until Wednesday…Yeah, we’re definitely playing in Brazil. I’ll be there, not to do a podcast. I’ll be playing football in the f*****g heat.”

He added: “There’s just something about getting close to the equator, I don’t want to put on football uniform. I’ve been in Jacksonville in September, that’s f*****g miserable.”
