Nearly one million households across Britain are failing to claim a Department for Work and Pensions benefit worth approximately £4,300 annually, according to recent government figures.
DWP data reveals that 910,000 eligible households are not receiving Pension Credit despite being entitled to the payment.
With just days remaining before the new year begins, pensioners are being encouraged to verify whether they qualify for this financial support.
The benefit provides more than just additional weekly income – it also unlocks access to further assistance, including free television licences for those aged 75 and above.
The primary component of Pension Credit, known as Guarantee Credit, increases weekly income to £227.10 for single pensioners or £346.60 for couples.
Eligibility typically requires income below these amounts, though exceptions exist for certain groups.
Those with severe disabilities, caring responsibilities, or housing expenses may still qualify even if their earnings exceed the standard thresholds.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Pensions Minister Torsten Bell stated: “We’re committed to supporting harder-up pensioners however we can. Pension Credit is a simple way to give those who need it the most some extra support with bills or a free TV licence.”
He added: “I’d urge anyone who thinks they, or anyone they know, might be able to claim Pension Credit, to take a few minutes out of their day to check and apply. This country’s pensioners deserve every penny they are entitled to.”
