Sandra Bullock surfaced for a rare public sighting this week, two years after her longtime love Bryan Randall died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The 61-year-old was last seen out and about in December 2024, when she was glimpsed at a Los Angeles Lakers game against the Detroit Pistons.
Bullock has dialed back her public appearances in recent years, particularly in the time since she lost Randall after an eight-year romance.
She also has not appeared in a movie since the 2022 action comedy The Lost City, released while she was caring for Randall during his then-secret ALS battle.
However it emerged earlier this year that she is working on a return to the screen, a romance thriller that will reunite her with her Speed co-star Keanu Reeves.
Then this Wednesday, she was seen with a careworn expression as she drove through Los Angeles with her son Louis, 15, sitting in the front passenger seat.

They were accompanied by their beloved poodle Sweetie, who sat on Bullock’s side of the car and could be spotted peering out the driver’s window.
Louis was in fact the reason Bullock and Randall first met – she hired him as a photographer to take pictures of her son’s birthday party.
Bullock adopted Louis in 2010, and in 2015 she brought home her younger child from foster care, a now 11-year-old daughter called Laila.
Last July, as Bullock approached her 60th birthday nearly a year after Randall died, an insider revealed how she was coping with the bereavement.
‘She’s doing okay now. Her kids are amazing. She’s very happy to be a mom,’ said an insider close to Bullock’s longtime friend Jennifer Aniston.
‘Her friends gave her the support that she needed both during his illness and afterwards. She is grateful for all the love. Everyone helped to lift her up after Bryan passed,’ the source explained to People magazine.
Randall secretly battled ALS for three years before finally succumbing to the dread disease on August 5, 2023, at the age of 57.
ALS, which is known in some countries as motor neurone disease, is a rare and incurable degenerative condition that impairs the nervous system over time and causes the muscles to increasingly suffer from paralysis.

In 2021, when Randall was already privately suffering from the condition, Bullock hailed him as ‘the love of my life’ on Red Table Talk; the couple are pictured in London in 2018
About half of ALS patients have a life expectancy of three years after the initial onset of symptoms, though some can survive for decades.
ALS has been colloquially known in America as Lou Gehrig’s disease ever since it claimed the life of the beloved baseball player in 1941 when he was just 37.
Other notable patients have included Stephen Hawking, Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, SpongeBob Squarepants creator Stephen Hillenburg, English actor David Niven and Killing Me Softly with His Song singer Roberta Flack.
