Sadio Mane shared an intimate moment with his young family following Senegal’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday evening.

The former Liverpool forward was pictured alongside his 20-year-old wife Aisha Tamba and their infant daughter in the dressing room at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Senegal secured their second continental title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Morocco in extra time.

Pape Gueye’s stunning strike proved decisive after one of the most chaotic finals in the tournament’s history.

Tamba had watched from the stands as the match descended into controversy before joining her husband for the post-match celebrations.

The couple’s baby girl, born in March last year, was brought into the changing room to share in her father’s moment of glory.

Mane earned the player of the tournament accolade following his instrumental performances throughout the competition, including scoring twice on Senegal’s path to glory.

His most significant contribution, however, came during the final’s most contentious moments.

Manager Pape Thiaw had ordered his squad off the pitch in protest after Morocco were awarded a penalty in the dying seconds of normal time, moments after Senegal had seen a goal ruled out.

The delay lasted nearly 16 minutes, with clashes erupting between supporters and riot police inside the stadium.

It was Mane who took it upon himself to venture into the dressing room and persuade his teammates to resume the contest.

Morocco’s Brahim Diaz subsequently attempted a Panenka from the spot, only for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to collect his chipped effort with ease.

Mane spoke candidly after the match about his decision to bring his teammates back onto the field.

“Football is something special, the world was watching, the world loves football and I think football is a pleasure so we have to give a good image for football,” he told the BBC.

The 33-year-old was emphatic that abandoning the fixture would have been unconscionable.

“I think it would be crazy to not play this game because what, the referee gave a penalty and we go out of the game?” he said.

“I think that would be the worst thing especially in African football. I’d rather lose than this kind of thing happen to our football.”

He acknowledged the lengthy stoppage was regrettable but expressed satisfaction that the match ultimately reached its proper conclusion.

Mane wed Tamba in January 2024 in Keur Massar, a district within Senegal’s capital Dakar, just days before that year’s Africa Cup of Nations commenced.

The pair had kept their relationship private until the ceremony, which was attended by family, friends and fellow professionals.

Tamba’s father Amadou revealed that his daughter first encountered Mane when she was 16, though the couple did not date prior to their marriage.

Their daughter arrived 14 months after the wedding.

Sunday’s triumph marked Mane’s final appearance at the continental championship, with the forward confirming his intention to step away from international football following this summer’s World Cup.

“For me, as far as the AFCON is concerned, it’s over here,” Mane declared after lifting the trophy.
