Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick has launched a scathing attack on the Labour Government, telling the party: “You have failed our country.”

Speaking to GB News, Mr Jenrick criticised Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Sir Keir Starmer for a string of policy mistakes, manifesto promises, and U-turns that have left the public and businesses confused.

Mr Jenrick made the remarks after it was revealed that the inheritance tax threshold will rise to £2.5million for farmers and businesses.

The Shadow Justice Secretary told The People’s Channel: “They gave us lies before the election, U-turns afterwards and then bad policies coming forward, some of which they then subsequently scrapped.

“When people take to the streets like the farmers and protest against it, this Government doesn’t know which way it’s going to go.

“It’s the most unpopular and discredited Government that we’ve ever had, led by Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves to incompetent people unsuited to hold high office.

“The sad thing is that we are going to be stuck with this Government, whether it’s Starmer, Reeves or other non entities who might take over from them in the future if the Labour Party chuck those out.

“We’re going to be stuck with this for a number of years, and a lot of harm can be done during that period.

“I do believe this is a great country. We can turn it around, we can get the economy going again, and we can make a more fair economy, one where ordinary people can actually see their wages rising.

“Public service is improving. Enterprise has a reward. So you can start a small business or run a small farm and not feel you’re going to be taxed to the hills, or it’s going to be taken away from your kids and your grandkids later on.

“That’s what we’ve got to work towards.

“But it’s going to take time and we’ve got to eventually get rid of this Labour Government because it’s failing Britain right now.”

Confirming the decision, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary Emma Reynolds announced that the inheritance tax threshold will rise to £2.5million for farmers and businesses.

She said: “So we’ve listened to farmers and businesses across the country, and we want to protect more family farms and businesses.

“So we’re announcing today that we’re increasing the inheritance tax threshold for individuals from £1million to £2.5million.”

Meanwhile, Shadow Environment Secretary Victoria Atkins told Britain’s News Channel: “This is no way to run a Government.

“No wonder, frankly, people are just in despair at the way that this Prime Minister is running his Government.

“It is not a fit and proper way to run a country and run a Government.

“And so we as Conservatives, we will continue holding this Government to account. We will be asking these difficult questions.

“I don’t expect to get any answers in the chamber because we never do from Labour ministers, but we will be asking these difficult questions about how exactly now they’ve revised their maths and got there, worked out that they were wrong all along.

“But I’m also going to ask Emma Reynolds for an apology.

“I think she and Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer and Steve Reed and all of the junior ministers who have leapt to the defence of this vindictive tax, every single one of them needs to apologise to the farming community and to rural communities.”
