A former NSW Blues under-18s State of Origin player has been sent to prison for at least 14 months for his role in a vicious street brawl on Anzac Day last year.

Maurice Trindall, 25, who was a former Penrith Panthers junior, was jailed last week in the Parramatta District Court after pleading guilty to reckless grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding.

He glassed an innocent woman in the face during a fight involving him and two friends, and stomped on a man, leaving him with a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and hearing loss.

The incident occurred outside the Bidwill Hotel in Sydney‘s outer west.

Trindall was given a total term of imprisonment of two years and four months with a non-parole period of 14 months.

He is set to be released on parole on December 1 due to time already spent in custody.

Court documents revealed how Trindall got into a brawl after another man exchanged words with Marcus Barker.

The pair argued, according to witnesses, about the NSW country town of Coonamble, with Barker telling the other man: ‘Don’t f**king say I’m from here.’

Mr Barker was told by pub security to move on before the men got into a brawl.

Court documents stated that the fight started when Trindall punched Barker, before his cousin Christopher Barker arrived to help.

Christopher fell to the kerb and witnesses said he was then kicked in his body and head as he lay in the gutter.

‘He was bleeding, his face was swollen, and he was making weird noises,’ court documents stated.

‘She saw blood pouring from the victim’s ear, and she turned his head to drain the blood, took off her red jacket and used her jacket to brace his head.’

Trindall also glassed innocent bystander Donna Stanley, who got involved in the clash.

Court documents state that Ms Stanley threw a glass bottle at Trindall, who evaded it before picking it up and throwing it at Ms Stanley’s face, hitting her near her right eye, court documents state.

She was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital after suffering a laceration to the right side of her forehead and another to the front of her scalp, which required stitches.

Christopher Barker was rushed to Westmead Hospital where he was diagnosed with multiple subdural haematomas and hearing loss.

He left hospital after a nine-day stay.

Trindall played alongside the likes of current NRL stars Bradman Best, Spencer Leniu and Jason Saab for the Blues in 2018, and went on to become an amateur boxer.

Earlier this year, Trindall’s partner Faith Stafford posted a photo of herself and Trindall online, saying: ‘God’s plan is worth the wait.’
