Martin Daubney praised an “absolutely magnificent” speech from the Co-Founder of the Salon Employers Association Toby Dicker who delivered an emotional warning about the future of the high street, as businesses struggle under rising taxes and costs.
Speaking on GB News, the salon owner described how years of pressure have left small employers “desperate”, with some forced to take second jobs, close their businesses or consider laying off staff.
Speaking on GB News, Mr Wicker said: “People are desperate. You cannot keep coming back to the same lemon and squeezing it.
“What has happened is that this Labour Government has completely bottled it when it comes to the decisions they could have made.
“Microbusinesses are getting away with paying far, far less tax — that is simply the truth.
“The reason you do not see builders, electricians, plumbers or anyone in our sector grow is because of the arbitrary £90,000 VAT threshold and a massively punitive VAT system that kills businesses.
“Every time, the response is: ‘No, we will not tax where we need to. We will not tax the giant corporations or the very smallest businesses, we will just smash the middle.’
“Until that changes, the high street is going to be finished. And make no mistake, we are going to keep making noise.

“You have successfully helped the farmers’ campaign now look at hospitality and hairdressing. They occupy the vast majority of the high street. They are the core glue that brings people in.
“Instead, they are being smashed again and again and again and we have had enough. It is no wonder people are now starting to ban politicians.
“Listen to us. Spend a couple of hours with us. I know the advisers in Government understand this argument but politically, you do not have the courage to do the right thing, and that is the problem.”
Emotional, Martin responded: “That was a very emotional statement there. You really, really are an amazing speaker.
“You know, I’ll tell you what, if you’re not to be in hairdressing, why don’t you get involved in politics? Toby, you just said you just encapsulated that in a way that I just think people don’t hear, the truth.”

Mr Dicker: “Then they’re insulated from the truth. That’s the problem. All politicians from all parties.
“I’m afraid if you don’t sit and really listen to people, you’re going to lose us all. There’s nowhere to turn in politics now.
“There’s no one that really wants to listen. Sit down with us. We’ve said sit down for half a day or we will put millions of pounds back in your coffers.
“We will get the economy moving and growing and doing what it needs to do. We genuinely will. There’s brilliant people out there.
“You might go with just hairdressers. These people are brilliant. They understand people so so, so well. Give people respect and listen to us.
“Get people who have run businesses, who understand, people who understand how to grow and listen to us because you guarantee you you will not be voted in next time.”
Martin responded: “I feel like giving you a round of applause for that, mate. I’ll tell you what.
“That was absolutely magnificent. You know, honestly, let’s let’s try and get something going.
“Let’s try and get you down here. Get down to Parliament. Do anything we can to help. Give some oxygen to all of this. That’s amazing stuff. Thank you very much.”
hIS comments come as hairdressing establishments follow more than 1,000 pubs in displaying “No Labour MPs” stickers on their premises following Rachel Reeves’s Budget.
The Chancellor has herself been barred from her local pub amid anger over soaring business rates.
