Morgan Rogers inspires Aston Villa to 10th straight victory as Man Utd suffer key injury

Morgan Rogers delivered a stunning brace as Aston Villa secured a 2-1 triumph over Manchester United at Villa Park, extending their remarkable winning streak to ten matches across all competitions.

The England forward proved the decisive figure in what was otherwise a closely contested affair, with both of his strikes finding the net via expertly curled finishes.

Matheus Cunha had briefly restored parity for the visitors after Rogers’ spectacular opener, but the Villa midfielder would not be denied a second time.

Unai Emery’s side continue their exceptional run of form heading into the festive period, cementing their position among the Premier League’s elite contenders.

Rogers’ first goal showcased his technical brilliance, cutting inside before unleashing a shot that nestled in the top corner.

His second was equally impressive, another curling effort that left goalkeeper Senne Lammens with no chance.

Speaking after the match, Rogers emphasised the dedication behind his performances: “It’s hard work, it’s long hours and you want every one to go in the top corner like that, so it’s nice when one does go in.”

The midfielder also praised the Villa Park faithful for their contribution.

“The fans make football,” he said. “It is so enjoyable playing here. We have the crowd behind us and you can see it in our performances.”

Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure despite his side’s defeat, insisting United had been the superior team on the day.

“I think we were the better team today,” the Portuguese manager told Sky Sports. “We did a very good job that no one is going to remember tomorrow because what matters is the result.”

He added pointedly: “Again I think we deserved so much more today but the better team did not win.”

United’s afternoon was further complicated when Bruno Fernandes departed with an injury, forcing Lisandro Martinez into an unfamiliar midfield role.

Amorim confirmed the captain had sustained soft tissue damage. “It’s going to be a while,” he acknowledged.

The result leaves Villa in third place in the Premier League standings, though they have narrowed the gap to leaders Arsenal to just three points.

For United, the defeat represents a missed opportunity to leapfrog Liverpool into fifth position.

Amorim’s men will instead find themselves in seventh when the Christmas fixtures arrive, a sobering reality for a club with such lofty ambitions.

Cunha might have salvaged a point for the visitors, but his unmarked header from Patrick Dorgu’s cross drifted wide from merely six yards out.

It proved a costly miss as Villa’s winning run continues unabated.
