Liam Rosenior sacking demanded by furious fans as Chelsea boss blames own player after PSG drubbing

Furious Chelsea supporters have called for the club to sack Liam Rosenior immediately in the wake of their catastrophic Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

The Blues went into the match at Stamford Bridge 5-2 down from the first leg after their Ligue 1 rivals ran riot at the Parc des Princes last week.

But Chelsea were thrashed once again, with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu sending Luis Enrique’s team through.

Rosenior initially enjoyed a positive start to life at Chelsea after replacing Enzo Maresca in January.

Yet results have dipped considerably in recent weeks, with the 41-year-old appearing increasingly out of his depth.

Chelsea supporters were heard booing the team at the final whistle after their hopes of European glory went up in smoke.

And a number of fans on social media have now called for Rosenior to be relieved of his duties, with one user saying: “Never been so clear how out of depth Rosenior is, it’s almost like we press for pressing sake with no immediate response when that press is broken. Just end the farce and sack him before it gets worse.”

A second said: “Rosenior sack is overdue.”

A third wrote: “Liam Rosenior is a rookie manager. Lousy defence tactics. Sack him.”

Another said: “Liam Rosenior is just another slightly better version of [Graham] Potter. Sack him.”

And a fifth opined: “Rosenior is not the right person for Chelsea. Sack him now.”

Chelsea initially enjoyed a positive start to the match.

However, the tie was effectively over when Kvaratskhelia capitalised on a mistake from Mamadou Sarr with just seven minutes on the clock.

Rosenior opened up on the defender’s error after the fixture, with the Chelsea boss suggesting individual errors – rather than his own tactics – had harmed his side.

“Yeah, 100 per cent,” he said when asked if he wanted more fight from his players.

“First six minutes, we’re in the game, we’re in their half of the pitch and then they score. I know that Mamadou is a great young player. These are things that you have to ride, but you have to learn from.

“We make a mistake, it’s an individual error. There’s nothing tactical and Kvaratskhelia, because he’s a top player, he scores.

“That gives them confidence, gives them a cushion and [Bradley] Barcola hits one from 25 yards into the top corner.

“I don’t remember them having a shot either side of that.

“So, we have to learn at the top, top level to be clinical and to make sure we keep the back door shut.

“We’ve done neither over the two legs and that’s why we’re out of the competition.”

When quizzed further on Sarr, he added: “Mamadou has played in that position for me and Mamadou’s been outstanding in games against PSG. And I felt his experience, his feel of the players, would help him.

“And when you’re a player and you make a mistake that early, it can become a really difficult night for you. We missed Reece [James], who’s out. Yeah, these are decisions that you want to make and you want to get correct.

“And in that moment, Mamadou’s made a mistake, which has made it a difficult night, because it gave PSG the confidence.”
