Luke Littler secured his maiden night victory of the 2026 Premier League darts season on Thursday night, defeating table-topper Jonny Clayton 6-4 in an enthralling final at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena.
The 19-year-old two-time world champion produced moments of brilliance throughout the evening, landing the maximum 170 checkout twice during his Welsh campaign.
‘The Nuke’ first nailed the ‘Big Fish’ finish to dispatch Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, before repeating the feat against Clayton in the decider.
The triumph propelled Littler into the top four of the standings, a significant improvement from his previous seventh-place position.
Despite falling to defeat, Clayton’s runner-up finish ensures he maintains his lead atop the Premier League table.
Speaking to Sky Sports after his Cardiff triumph, Littler acknowledged the adjustment period required at this level of competition.
“It took me a little while to get settled in to this tournament, as it did in the first year,” the teenager explained.

The final itself proved a captivating contest between two players at the peak of their powers.
Clayton, nicknamed ‘The Ferret’, initially seized control with a bullseye finish to take a 2-1 advantage over his younger opponent.
However, Littler’s stunning 170 checkout levelled matters, and the pair remained locked at three legs apiece at the midway point.
The teenager came agonisingly close to a perfect nine-dart leg, only to miss double 15 and watch the 51-year-old Welshman clear the remaining 41 in remarkable fashion.
Littler regained his composure, breaking Clayton’s throw to move within touching distance of victory.
He sealed the triumph by finishing on 52 with his final dart available.

Littler’s path to the final began with an impressive semi-final display against Price, opening with five successive treble 20s to race into a 2-0 lead whilst averaging just under 120.
The Welsh favourite appeared increasingly frustrated as Littler’s clinical finishing saw him fall 5-3 behind, before the teenager sealed victory with his spectacular maximum checkout.
Clayton progressed to the last four by overcoming 2024 PDC World Champion Luke Humphries 6-4, recovering from two missed doubles to delight the partisan home support.
Earlier in the evening, Humphries had cruised past Michael van Gerwen 6-1 in the opening round.
Josh Rock’s winless Premier League run continued despite averaging 103.72, as his double troubles persisted in a 6-4 loss to Littler.
