Tottenham hold ‘big conversion’ immediately after devastating defeat to Crystal Palace

Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke has revealed players and staff members immediately held talks in the dressing room following their devastating 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last night.

Solanke put the hosts ahead, sparking wild celebrations around the ground as the north London giants battle to stay in the Premier League.

But Palace came roaring back, with a brace from Ismaila Sarr and another effort from Jorgan Strand Larsen ultimately giving them all three points.

The result leaves Igor Tudor’s Tottenham team just one point above Nottingham Forest and West Ham with nine matches remaining.

Solanke fronted up after the fixture, with the 28-year-old admitting that things must improve rapidly if they’re to maintain their top-flight status.

“We’ve just had a big conversation,” he said.

“We know the position we are in is definitely not where we want to be so we need to figure out how we are going to get out of it as soon as possible.

“We know there’s been difficulties but we’re not in a position to make any excuses anymore.

“We need to do the job on the pitch. It is easy to say we want to be better but we want to be better on the pitch.

“We need to fight and realise the position we are in. We know the club is not used to being in this position so we need to understand it and understand it’s not going to be easy and we need to fight every single game, every single minute, to make sure we improve.”

Tudor has only been in the job for three matches.

With not a single point obtained from those fixture, however, the Croatian already finds himself under pressure to keep his job.

Tudor admitted he was disappointed by Tottenham’s defeat, admitting that a red card for Micky van de Ven before the interval swung the pendulum in Palace’s favour.

“We are disappointed we lose. The red card changed the game,” he said. “Then we conceded two or three fast goals.

“In the second half we tried. We wanted some good energy, I saw something to make me believe we can do it and I am sure we will do.

“The game plan was to believe when we are attacking that we are going to score a goal otherwise you cannot stay defending with one player [less] and unfortunately it was not enough.

“After this game I believe more than before. I know it is not easy. It is a moment but it will pass. It will pass. The message I said to them [the players] is not [for the] public.”

Palace boss Oliver Glasner, meanwhile, was delighted as the Eagles climbed to 13th in the table.

“It was a satisfying evening, especially with the result and the first half performance,” he said.

“I wasn’t very pleased with the second half, we didn’t control the game in the way we wanted with one extra player.

“We gave them too many set plays and dangerous opportunities around the box, but these things can happen.

“What I loved most is the reaction after we conceded the goal; it was great coming back scoring fantastic goals. But we also have to be critical that we could have done better in the second half. This is what we will work on now, consistency over the full game.”
