Gul Plaza victims get relief cheques



KARACHI:

The Sindh government has announced comprehensive relief and rehabilitation measures for victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy, pledging financial compensation, temporary housing, and interest-free loans to restore livelihoods.

At a ceremony held at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and Commerce Minister Ikramullah Durrani, accompanied by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and senior officials, distributed relief cheques among affected families.

Shah said heirs of the deceased are being given Rs10 million each, while Rs500,000 per family is being provided for immediate support. He added that temporary commercial and residential spaces are being arranged, and interest-free loans of up to Rs10 million will be offered through banks, with the government covering guarantees and interest.

“The Sindh government will not leave the victims alone. Complete rehabilitation is our responsibility,” Shah said.

Commerce Minister Durrani emphasized that the business community is the backbone of the economy and assured rapid resumption of activities. Karachi Chamber leaders welcomed the transparent distribution process and pledged cooperation with the government.
