Tyson Fury ‘to go back into retirement for real’ as Gypsy King’s opponent sends fighting message

Arslanbek Makhmudov’s promoter has told Tyson Fury that he wants to put him straight back into retirement when they meet in the ring on April 11.

The former world heavyweight champion has ended his retirement, nearly 12 months after announcing that he had decided to hang up his gloves, revealing a clash against Russian-born fighter Makhmudov.

Fury is desperate to become a three-time champion and has earmarked Makhmudov, who recently dismantled Dave Allen, as the ideal comeback fight.

But the 36-year-old’s promoter Camille Estephan has insisted that Makhmudov has plans to end his big plans and deliver a bruising defeat that will knock him back into retirement.

He said: “Our goal and objective is send him to retirement, this time for real!”

However, Fury appears to mean business and has been regularly posting on social media his comeback trail as he looks to dazzle in his first fight since defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

The Gypsy King said on Instagram: “Just finished a lovely three-mile run, nice and quick in the sun.

“Boxing later, probably do about 12-15 rounds of boxing. Minimum 1000 sit ups.

“Really going well. I can’t ever remember being as happy as this. I’m in a very good place, I’m in a positive place. I’m very happy, I’m looking forward to my fight.

“April 11, 2026, let’s go!”

While some might question to face Makhmudov, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has insisted this will not be a walk in the park.

“It’s a tough, tough comeback fight for him,” Warren told Sky Sports.

“He has jumped straight back in after being out of the ring for nearly two years by the time the fight comes around.

“He has made it very clear he wants big fights this year, and this is a big guy with a good knockout ratio.

“It’s a tough comeback fight for him, but if he comes through this, we’ll see where we go.”
