Major motorway to be closed ‘for several hours’ after ‘serious collision’


Drivers are facing long delays on a major motorway in the West Midlands this morning following a serious collision.

The M69 in Warwickshire is closed northbound between the M6 J2/A46 near Coventry and J1 (A5/Nuneaton).


National Highways is reporting that long delays on the M69 remain following the serious collision just after 5.30am this morning.

The collision has caused a “significant amount” of damage to the central reservation barrier, prompting emergency repairs.

Emergency services from Warwickshire are in attendance, alongside National Highways traffic officers, who are helping to manage the situation.

Warwickshire Police will continue to conduct investigations into the causes and impacts of the collision.

National Highways reported that the closure is “expected to remain ongoing for several hours throughout today”.

The latest traffic information from National Highways stated that the event is not expected to clear until around 1pm.

Normal traffic conditions are also set to return to normal levels at that time, although this could be extended as investigations continue.

In addition to the closure on the M69, drivers are also dealing with long rush hour delays on the A46 northbound, the M6 southbound and major roads in and around Coventry.

National Highways has outlined a diversion route for motorists near the M69 this morning to reduce traffic levels.

It warned: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

  • At the A46/M6 J2, take the M6 southbound
  • Continue along the M6 southbound and exit at J1
  • Take the A426 northbound to the junction with the A5
