Former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza has welcomed her first child with husband Arthur Borges, and the couple couldn’t be happier.

The newborn is now one week old, with Muguruza sharing the joyful news alongside a sweet photo.
Her post quickly attracted more than 20,000 likes, with former tennis stars rushing to congratulate the new parents.

Ex-US Open winner Flavia Pennetta wrote “Happy birthday, wonderful,” while Caroline Garcia added her congratulations to the happy couple.
The story of how Muguruza and Borges found each other is straight out of a romantic film.
Back in 2021, the tennis star was competing at the US Open and decided to take a stroll near her hotel in Central Park.
That’s when she bumped into Borges, who stopped her to wish her luck in the tournament.
“I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says, ‘Good luck at the US Open.’ I was left thinking, ‘Wow, he’s so handsome,'” she told HOLA! Spain.
It was love at first sight for both of them, and the pair quickly realised they were perfect for each other.
Borges proposed on one knee in Marbella, Spain, and the couple tied the knot there in October 2024.
“It felt weird. I was thinking something else and then when he proposed I started crying,” Muguruza revealed.
“I didn’t know how to react. I said yes in the midst of tears, it was very romantic.”
Speaking about their wedding day, she told HOLA!: “It’s a total movie. I knew I would marry him even before he asked me.”
The bride drew inspiration from Hollywood’s golden era for her dress, channelling the elegance of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.

Since hanging up her racket in 2024, Muguruza has thrown herself into exciting new ventures within the sport she loves.
She’s been appointed tournament director of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – an event she won as a player back in 2021.
The role sees her working to grow tennis across the Middle East and inspire young women to chase their dreams.
Muguruza’s playing career was nothing short of brilliant, with two Grand Slam titles to her name – Roland Garros in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017, where she defeated Venus Williams in the final.
She also holds the unique distinction of being the only player to beat both Williams sisters in Grand Slam finals.
