Kristen Stewart shares her dream to make films in Europe ‘and shove them down throat of the American people’ as she says ‘reality is breaking under Trump’ 14 years after now-President’s ‘insane’ social media rant about her

Kristen Stewart has voiced her desire to leave the US to make movies abroad and ‘then shove them down the throat of the American people’, as she reflected on the changing landscape of Hollywood under Donald Trump.

The actress, 35, endured her own public clash with the US President back in 2012, before he realised his political ambitions, when the thrice-married businessman, 79, went on a public rant at her on X during her cheating scandal.

In a new interview 14 years later with the Sunday Times, Kristen levelled criticism at Trump and admitted she could not see herself remaining in America.

The Twilight star recently released her directional debut, The Chronology Of Water, an adaptation of American swimmer Lidia Yuknavitch’s visceral 2011 memoir, detailing her experiences of childhood abuse and addiction.

Kristen explained that she chose to shoot the critically acclaimed film in Latvia because ‘it would have been impossible to do in the States’.

Last year, Trump said he will be imposing a 100 per cent tariff on any movie made outside of the US, calling them a ‘National Security threat’, despite both big-budget and smaller films commonly including production in both the US and other countries.

Kristen branded the proposed tariffs ‘terrifying’ for the film industry and said she foresaw her being forced to move abroad to create movies instead.

Asked whether she thought she’d stay in States, the Oscar-nominee – who currently splits her time between Los Angeles and New York – replied: ‘Probably not. I can’t work freely there’.

However, she voiced her desire to still make films for US audiences, adding: ‘But I don’t want to give up completely. I’d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people.’

The Spencer star hit out at Trump, but insisted that it was still possible to create change, saying: ‘Reality is breaking completely under Trump. But we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in.’

Trump infamously had some harsh words for Kristen in 2012, were he made multiple tweets about her love life and then-boyfriend Robert Pattinson, over the span of a month.

His rant came after news broke of Kristen’s infidelity with her Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, who was himself married at the time, while she was in a relationship with Twilight co-star Robert.

Trump – who infamously left his first wife Ivana Trump for her successor Marla Maples in 1992 – took to X to fume: ‘Robert Pattinson should not take back. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again–just watch. He can do much better!’

The mogul followed it up with a slew of more angry tweets, including: ‘Everyone knows I am right that Robert Pattinson should dump Kristen Stewart. In a couple of years, he will thank me. Be smart, Robert.’

‘Lots of response to my Pattinson/reunion. She will cheat again–100 certain–am I ever wrong?’

‘Robert Pattinson is putting on a good face for the release of Twilight. He took my advice on…I hope!’

‘After Friday’s Twilight release, I hope Robert Pattinson will not be seen in public with–she will cheat on him again!’

Kristen later reflected on the ‘insane’ rant years later, speaking to Variety at the Sundance Film Festival on the day of Trump’s inauguration

She said: ‘He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is f***ing crazy. What?

‘I can’t even understand it. I literally cannot even understand it. It’s such far-out concept that I don’t want to believe that actually is happening. It’s insane.

‘At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference. It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, “Oh my gosh, you’re right!”‘

After reading out a few of his tweets involving the cheating scandal, she joked: ‘I don’t think Donald Trump hated me. I think he’s in love with my boyfriend.’

Kristen then ended with the mic-drop line: ‘Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re probably really not going to like me now because I’m hosting SNL and I’m, like, so gay, dude.’

The newlyweds reportedly first met in 2013 on the set of Nima Nourizadeh’s action stoner comedy American Ultra.

In 2023, Kristen and Dylan, 38, co-founded their production company Nevermind Pictures with Maggie Mclean.
