Roy Keane demands Man Utd hire someone ‘bigger and better’ than Michael Carrick in brutal jibe

Roy Keane believes Manchester United have rediscovered their confidence following a thrilling 3-2 triumph over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.

Matheus Cunha came off the bench to net a dramatic late winner against the Premier League leaders, securing Michael Carrick’s second consecutive victory since taking charge.

“Considering where they are and where they have been, they had a bit of swagger and calmness to their play,” Keane told Sky Sports after the match.

The result marked United’s first win at Arsenal’s home ground in eight years, with Carrick now boasting victories over both Manchester City and the Gunners.

Despite Carrick’s impressive start to his tenure as interim boss, Keane remains unconvinced that the former midfielder should be handed the position permanently.

“Two great performances but anyone can win two games,” the former United captain declared on Sky Sports.

Keane was emphatic when pressed on whether Carrick deserved consideration for the long-term role.

“Even if they do get into fourth, I still wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. Absolutely not,” he stated.

“They need a bigger and better manager. But he has got the opportunity and what a chance for him, and you know what, he’s taking it.”

Keane offered praise for the quality on display during the Emirates encounter, highlighting the excellence of the goals scored by Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.

“Two brilliant strikes and players off the bench had a big influence,” he observed.

The former captain noted the atmosphere created by travelling supporters, suggesting the scenes were reminiscent of United’s glory years.

“You see the United fans in the corner, it’s a bit like the old days,” Keane remarked.

He acknowledged Carrick’s achievements thus far, stating the interim manager had delivered “two brilliant performances” and that his players “showed real quality.”

Carrick himself has adopted a cautious approach despite his remarkable opening fortnight in charge.

“It’s only been 10 days, so it was never going to be perfect,” the interim boss told Sky Sports following the victory.

He emphasised that United are at the beginning of their journey under his guidance.

“We’re just starting off, really. It’s a great starting point, but we need to put more layers on top, and we’ll try to do that in the coming weeks,” Carrick explained.

The 44-year-old credited his coaching staff and squad for their commitment, praising the impact of substitutes and describing the celebrations with supporters as “a big moment.”
