Overturned vehicle forces hours-long traffic standstill as emergency services rush to scene


Drivers are being warned of traffic chaos along a major route this afternoon following a serious accident resulted in an overturned vehicle.

The M2 in Kent is closed westbound between J5 (Maidstone, Sheerness A249) and J4 (Gillingham, A278) after the incident just before 1pm today.


National Highways states that a vehicle struck the central reservation barrier and came to a rest in an overturned position.

Kent Police is leading the response to the incident and are being assisted by South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Traffic officers from the transport organisation are assisting with congestion management along the M2 in Kent this afternoon.

It stated that its first priority was to ensure the road is closed before assisting with traffic that remains stationary during the closure.

National Highways added: “Due to the seriousness of the incident, Kent Police will be carrying out detailed collision investigations at the scene.
