Nationwide suffered a two-hour-long outage today, leaving thousands of Brits unable to access their online accounts.
The issues began shortly after 2pm Tuesday, according to Down Detector, with more than 2,000 reports from affected customers.
Of those who reported issues, 48 per cent were having problems with online banking, 37 per cent with mobile banking and 15 per cent with mobile login.
Many affected customers headed to X (Twitter) to share their experiences, with one saying: ‘@AskNationwide can’t get logged on is there a problem.’
Another said: ‘@AskNationwide is there currently an issue? I cannot log in via app or online. Keep getting “we’re are having technical issues” message.’
Yet another said: ‘@AskNationwide any idea when the app will be available again ? Bit of an inconvenience breaking in the middle of the day.’
In a statement just after 4pm, a Nationwide spokesperson said: ‘We had a technical issue that affected our internet and mobile banking service earlier.
‘All services are now working normally. We are very sorry for any disruption this has caused our customers.’

In response to frustrated customers on X, the official Nationwide account posted earlier: ‘The team are working swiftly to get things back to normal as soon as possible.’
The Nationwide spokesperson admitted both the banking app and internet banking are unavailable due to the ongoing issues.
According to Down Detector, Nationwide customers have been affected across the country, from London to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow.
DownDetector gets network status updates from social media platforms, reports submitted to its website and other sources around the web.
It ‘only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day’.
It’s unclear what the cause of the outage was; the Daily Mail has reached out to Nationwide for more information.
According to consumer rights advocate Which?, a banking app outage usually results from an IT glitch or a maintenance update.
It advises any affected customers to contact their branch – either by phone or in person, especially if you urgently needed to access your money.

‘These latest IT issues could cause real headaches for thousands of customers – made worse because it’s payday for many of them,’ said Reena Sewraz, Which? retail editor.
‘Some people may miss important bill payments, find themselves unable to pay for essential services or risk going overdrawn, all of which could have serious consequences, including late payment or overdraft penalties or impacting their ability to get credit or borrow money.
‘It’s crucial that all affected banks keep customers updated and move quickly to compensate for any losses that may result from today’s outages.
‘Customers should keep evidence of impacted payments should they need to make a claim.
‘If customers have missed important payments, they should contact the relevant company to ensure they waive any fees incurred.’
