Industries received Rs12.1b power relief


Nearly half of industrial consumers availed surplus electricity package in Dec-Jan

The Power Division has released data for December 2025 and January 2026 showing that industrial consumers received cumulative relief of Rs12.125 billion under the three-year long-term concessional electricity package, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

The statistics show that 127,686 industrial consumers benefited from the package during the two-month period, representing 46% of the total 278,961 registered industrial consumers. Under the scheme, both small and large industries received a uniform benefit of Rs10.3 per unit on the consumption of surplus electricity. During December and January, a total of 1,176 million units of electricity were sold to industries under the surplus package, accounting for 23.8% of total industrial electricity sales in the two months. In December alone, 557 million units were sold under the scheme, representing 23% of industrial units sold that month. This translated into financial relief of Rs5.743 billion, with 125,829 consumers, or 45% of industrial users, benefiting from the package.

In January 2026, industries consumed 619 million units under the surplus arrangement, accounting for 24.5% of total industrial electricity sales. The resulting financial relief amounted to Rs6.382 billion, while the number of benefiting industrial consumers rose to 127,686.
