Clive and Christine Nightingale found themselves unable to contain their joy after watching their son Huw claim Olympic glory in the mixed snowboard cross event on Sunday.
The 24-year-old from Bolton partnered with Charlotte Bankes to deliver Team GB’s first ever gold medal on snow, a historic achievement that prompted his proud parents to share some wonderfully embarrassing memories on camera.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the couple provided viewers with a heartwarming and comedic reaction that their son will surely treasure – even if some of the anecdotes might make him blush.
Their unfiltered celebration also captured the raw emotion of witnessing a child become an Olympic champion.
Clive’s initial instinct was to proudly declare “My son” to the cameras, though a swift glance from Christine prompted him to hastily correct himself to “Our son, our son” with a mischievous smile.
His wife was quick to remind everyone of her contribution, quipping: “I did have something to do with it.”
As the magnitude of the moment began to sink in, Clive celebrated by announcing: “The parents of the Olympic champion, yeahhhhhh.”

Christine then offered an anecdote that may well leave her son rather embarrassed, joking: “I’ve changed his nappy!”
Not wanting to miss out, Clive immediately added: “And so did I!”
The choice of memory might cause Nightingale some future embarrassment, though the gold medal will surely soften any blushes.

The emotional weight of the occasion proved overwhelming for Clive, who became tearful watching his son’s triumph.
However, he maintained his characteristic humour when speaking to the BBC, explaining: “I cry at anything.
“Long Lost Families, Steve McQueen getting caught in barbed wire in the Great Escape but this is an indescribable feeling.”
Christine was full of admiration for her son’s tactical approach during the final, stating: “Huw played a blinder today.
“He wasn’t just playing safe to give Charlotte the best chance. He really attacked. We’re so proud of him.”
The gold medallist himself hinted at substantial celebrations ahead, admitting he enjoys drinking “a bit too much” and promising a big party with family and friends.

The victory represented a remarkable turnaround for both athletes, who had been consoling each other just days earlier following disappointing performances in their individual events.
Bankes in particular has faced considerable adversity, having crashed out at the Beijing Games and then suffering a broken collarbone in 2025 that necessitated two separate surgical procedures before these Olympics.
Her medal prospects appeared bleak after she was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the individual women’s snowboard cross earlier in the week.
Yet the duo regrouped and delivered under pressure in Sunday’s final, with Bankes producing a stunning late surge to secure victory.
The triumph marked Team GB’s second gold of the Games, following Matt Weston’s skeleton success on Friday.
