Shameless Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, pushes ‘miracle’ $150 Goop serum… but plastic surgeon suggests she’s neglected to mention a far more invasive secret behind her taut face and ‘TILTED’ eyes

Her flawless looks are the envy of millions of women.

And now actress turned wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, claims shelling out $150 for her new Goop peptide serum can help achieve the kind of glossy perfection she is known for.

But one top plastic surgeon says he believes the Oscar-winning actress’s youthful appearance is far more likely the result of an appointment with a scalpel-wielding cosmetic surgeon.

Pushing the serum in social media commercials, Paltrow is filmed rubbing it into her makeup free skin while making bold claims about its potency.

‘If I could only recommend one product it would definitely be our peptide serum. This is the one,’ Paltrow says.

‘Something like this that addresses elasticity and skin quality and wrinkles is such a miracle for somebody like me, you know, who’s at 50 years old,’ the Marty Supreme star continues.

Paltrow is then filmed chatting to her plastic surgeon friend Dr Julius Few about a ‘blinded control study’ used to test their product.

She concludes: ‘Good skincare, especially when it’s clean can be an investment and you want it to work really well and this surpassed every expectation that I have.’

There is no suggestion Goop’s new product falls short of Paltrow’s claims. But plastic surgeon Dr Frederick Weniger told the Daily Mail that the actress has also likely had invasive operations.

‘Gwyneth Paltrow is certainly looking great at the age of 53, but the suggestion that her skin has been saved by only her Goop anti-aging product is unlikely,’ top plastic surgeon Dr Weniger said.

While he accepts Paltrow ‘probably does get good results from her own skin care product,’ Dr Weniger also said he believes she has had ‘at least one surgical procedure’ to achieve her look.

‘There is the possibility that she has had facial aesthetic surgery. Some of her recent photos look like she has less extra upper eyelid skin than previously, suggesting an upper blepharoplasty (eye lift),’ he said.

He said that in photos from recent red carpets, ‘at least one picture appears like her eyes are tilted more, which could be related to a lower eyelid surgery or a cheek lift – possibly endoscopic.’

The surgeon also noted that Paltrow ‘shows no signs of significant loose neck skin – unusual for a very thin lady. Therefore a lower facelift or neck lift is likely.’

Dr Weniger has not treated or examined Paltrow and offered his opinion based on photographs taken of Paltrow over the years.

The Daily Mail has contacted Paltrow for comment.

Medical aesthetic consultant and influencer Dana Omari agreed with Dr Weniger after reviewing pictures of Paltrow, who she has never worked with personally.

‘She has had a recent blepharoplasty it looks like to me. It looks like she’s recently had a necklift, face lift, her jaw looks incredible and it looks different from 2021.’

Paltrow has only publicly admitted to using Botox and laser treatments in the past, and has never said that she has had any invasive surgical procedures.

‘I don’t mind a few wrinkles and freckles,’ she previously told the Mail in 2013. ‘I had this laser treatment recently, Thermage, and it took a couple of years off my face but I haven’t had any plastic surgery yet.’

British esthetics expert Dr Jonny Betteridge said on his popular Instagram page that he believes Paltrow underwent a facelift, neck lift and eyelift sometime between 2020 and 2022.

Paltrow not disclosing whether she has had surgery has been met with some criticism from fans, with one Instagram user commenting last year: ‘I really wish she’d be honest about the work she’s had recently because she sells anti aging products.

‘She looks amazing but like be honest. Especially when that’s what your brand is all about.’

Paltrow developed her brand’s anti-aging serum with her friend of many years, renowned plastic surgeon Dr Julian Few.

In a sit-down chat between the two promoting the product, Paltrow hails Dr Few as ‘one of the pioneers of threading,’ a treatment which uses dissolvable ‘structures’ under the skin to pull it taut, which she has not admitted to having herself.

Dr Few claimed that he was ‘stunned’ by the before and after pictures of people who had used their serum, and says he promotes it to patients at his surgery.

‘I knew all the ingredients should have certain scientific effects on skin, but what we saw, and especially in a short period of time, was kind of amazing. You could see the change at one week,’ he said, describing the benefits of the serum as ‘really unusual and powerful.’

While Paltrow has bought in to peptides – short amino acid chains – as a ‘miracle’ cure to improve skin elasticity, experts caution that they are not the be all and end all.

Dermatologist Dr Heather D Rogers says: ‘Peptides are helpful, not heroic. Peptides can support skin health by promoting collagen, aiding repair and improving hydration – but they’re not the cornerstone of your routine.’

‘While peptide products like creams and serums can offer benefits, their effects are not universal, and some claims remain unsubstantiated,’ she writes on her blog

Dr Weniger agreed that peptides are beneficial, explaining that these and other ingredients in Goop’s anti-aging products ‘offer many benefits plus the possibility of something more from the evolving science of peptides.’

‘That being said, Gwyneth would not be looking this good at 53 if Goop was the only thing she used,’ he said.

He suggests that she also includes retinol, such as Retin-A, in her routine, ‘to improve her collagen thickness and dermal integrity,’ a step he recommends to for any ‘serious’ skincare regimen.

‘Also, she has discussed getting Xeomin (like Botox) in the past for facial wrinkles.

‘Considering that she smoked in the past and this would have accelerated the aging of her skin, she probably gets chemical peels or laser peels,’ he added.

He went on to say that despite her age, Paltrow’s face ‘still shows good volume in all areas.’

‘This suggests the judicious use of dermal fillers, like Juvederm or Restylane, or a collagen stimulator like Sculptra.’

Last year fans speculated that she may have used lip filler after she shared a video where she appeared to be pouting.

In 2023, the actress admitted to her Instagram followers during an Instagram Q+A session that she has had Botox – which has been both ‘successful and unsuccessful.’

The Goop Founder was asked by one of her fans: ‘Did you ever try botox?’ responding on her Instagram stories.

In response to the question, she wrote: ‘God yes. Both successfully and unsuccessfully I’m afraid.’

In the public eye since her late teens, the star has always had her looks under a microscope, and has been vocal about the scrutiny women receive simply for aging naturally.

‘Especially women in the industry… when you’re sort of known as a, quote, ‘beautiful woman’, when you’re young and you sort of make your living off of that, it’s sort of terrifying to come to the precipice where people are judging you for looking older.

‘You see online some women who are aging naturally, some of the comments on Instagram, it’s horrendous.’

Speaking to Vogue recently, she said: ‘As women, we want to be healthy, we want to be aging – this idea that we’re supposed to be frozen in time is so weird.

‘It’s handsome to go grey [as a man], but for women, it’s like, “What do you plan to do about your wrinkles and your ageing skin?” Every woman should do it how they want to do it.’

She was lauded last year for sharing a snap of her ‘real skin’, and has championed a holistic approach to skincare including products from her range, facial exercises and lymphatic drainage.

But she has also expressed caution about doing ‘too much’, asking Dr Few when he thought enough is enough with anti-aging procedures.

‘I’m happy to embrace aging,’ Paltrow has also said. ‘And I also want to look kind of as fresh and healthy as I can look while I’m aging.’

She has also openly admitted that her pricey skincare products – and therefore the strict regime she uses herself – are aimed at the ‘moneyed’ and out of most women’s grasp.

Speaking on The Cutting Room Floor podcast last year, she said: ‘Most of what we [the brand] buy is not for that super, super affluent [customer], it’s more… affluent.’

The actress turned beauty entrepreneur has responded to criticism that her products are overpriced by describing her brand as ‘aspirational.’

And there are few celebrities more aspirational than Paltrow.

Born to actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth enjoyed an ultra-privileged upbringing on New York’s Upper East Side, where she attended the elite Spence School.

Paltrow, the goddaughter of iconic director Steven Spielberg, began a successful acting career during the 1990s.

She won the best actress Oscar for Shakespeare in Love in 1999.

Paltrow created her Goop wellness newsletter in 2008 while married to Coldplay musician Chris Martin, who is the father of her daughter Apple, 21, and Moses, 19.

It quickly became a wellness behemoth that has been valued as high as $433 million.
