Prince William proved to be the good luck charm Wales needed as the royal watched them defeat Italy in the Six Nations, claiming their first victory in three years.

The future King joined in with the Welsh national anthem, showing off his speaking skills again, previously seen in the Prince and Princess of Wales’s St David’s Day message.

William is patron of the Welsh Rugby Union and frequently attends both men’s and women’s matches.

Following the game, the Prince of Wales took to social media, writing: “Fantastic to see @welshrugbyunion secure a @sixnationsrugby win! Thank you @italrugby for a brilliant contest.”

Wales won 31-17 on the night, now boasting the same record as England at this year’s tournament.

Wales had not won a Six Nations match since their victory over Italy in March 2023, ending a 15-match losing streak.

The prince’s wife, Catherine, holds a similar position with the Rugby Football Union.

The couple has lightheartedly joked about cheering for different teams during the tournament, with the prince supporting Wales and Catherine rooting for England.

Three years ago, the Prince of Wales jested that it would be a “tense journey home” with his wife after a match between the two countries in Cardiff.

Earlier this month, William and Catherine showed off their Welsh-speaking skills by sending a Happy St David’s Day to everyone in Wales.

The princess had never spoken in Welsh before, but did not disappoint in the video message posted on the couple’s social media channels.

Both wearing daffodils, the couple spoke to the camera in Welsh, with English subtitles appearing below.

William started off the message saying: “To everyone in Wales, a very Happy St David’s Day!”

Catherine followed up with: “Wales is very close to our hearts, and we look forward to every visit.”

The Prince of Wales continued: “It is a beautiful country, with a rich history and wonderful people.”

Concluding the video, Catherine said: “Wishing you a day full of celebration with family and friends.”

Royal fans rained down praise on the couple’s message in Welsh, which garnered nearly 20,000 likes on Instagram in under half an hour.

One commenter described the pair as a “class act!” while another added: “You two are great ambassadors for our United Kingdom.”

Despite it only being the first time Catherine has done a message in Welsh, another credited her pronunciation, saying: “The princess actually sounds Welsh.”
