A Premier League star was reportedly threatened with a gun by an agent, with the individual subsequently arrested by police.

According to The Sun, the footballer, who is in his 20s and estimated to have a transfer value of £60million, was targeted while out walking on a busy street in London with a friend.

The agent, who is similarly high profile and is said to represent an England international, was ‘detained last month on suspicion of brandishing the firearm with intent to cause fear or violence’, as per the report.

The incident took place on September 6, with police called at 11.14PM that day, but no-one was harmed.

The agent, who police reportedly visited at home two days later, is similarly under investigation for allegedly blackmailing and making threats towards the star’s friend, although he is yet to be charged with any offence.

The suspect was granted bail on September 9 but within the bail conditions, the report claims he must not contact the player, and police also banned him from travelling to the training ground of the player’s club.

A judge did agree to a bail variation at a magistrates’ court in October which allowed the agent to go on pre-booked trips abroad, but he must return his passport to the police when he returns.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Sun that they were investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a source told the publication: ‘This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football.

‘The player was understandably shaken up – to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking.

‘He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety. He has been supported by his friends and club and they all hope it will not impact his performances.

‘But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer.’
