For the first time in Rawalpindi’s history, a major project to overhaul the city’s sewerage system, costing Rs15 billion, has been launched.

The initiative is being carried out under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Development Programme, with large-scale development work currently under way across the city.

Work is progressing rapidly on the installation of 82 kilometres of new sewerage lines in Rawalpindi. In addition, a two-kilometre-long drainage channel will be constructed to ensure the effective disposal of rainwater.

The project also includes the establishment of a modern disposal station with a capacity of 16 cusecs. Authorities have set June 2026 as the target for the completion of the development schemes.

Punjab Secretary for Housing, Noorul Amin Mengal, visited several project sites to review progress. During the visit, officials from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) provided a detailed briefing on the ongoing development works.
