Motorists across the UK are being warned of hundreds of car parks that close down in response to parking operator NCP going into administration.
NCP has appointed administrators from consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to oversee the future of the business.
It announced that it would undertake an assessment of the options for the business, which could include site closures.
NCP, which is owned by Japanese firm Park24, currently employs around 681 people and manages 340 car parks around the UK.
In recent years, NCP has struggled with low parking demand, changes in commuting behaviour and long-term, inflexible leases, resulting in “insufficient cash”.
PwC stated that a sale of all or part of the business would be explored as “one of the options to secure the best outcome for creditors”.
Zelf Hussain, Joint Administrator and PwC partner, said: “NCP has faced a challenging trading environment over several years, with changing consumer behaviours impacting volumes, and a high fixed cost-base leading to trading losses.”
He added that all sites around the UK would remain open while PwC undertakes a “detailed review of the business”.
