Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates endured a nasty dislocated pinkie finger just minutes into tonight’s Europa League play-off clash with Fenerbahce at the City Ground.

The midfielder went down after an awkward landing, with his finger visibly bent at a gruesome angle.

It was so graphic that TNT Sports decided against showing any replays of the incident.

Commentator Darren Fletcher told viewers: “We’re not going to show you it because it can put you off your tea.”

His co-commentator Karen Carney admitted she couldn’t even watch the treatment unfold.

Forest came into the second leg holding a comfortable 3-0 advantage from their trip to Turkey last week.

Despite the horrifying nature of the injury, Yates wasn’t about to let it stop him.

The 28-year-old club captain made his way to the touchline where Forest’s medical staff got to work putting the finger back into place and strapping it up.

Remarkably, he was chatting away to teammate Elliot Anderson while the repairs were being done.

Fletcher noted how incredible it was that Yates simply “gestured to the physio and said, ‘Can you come and just sort this out’.”

Even more astonishing, the midfielder was actually smiling about the whole ordeal during treatment.

Within minutes, he was back on the pitch and ready to carry on with the match.

Supporters watching at home couldn’t help but react to their captain’s incredible resilience.

One fan wrote: “I knew Ryan Yates had forest in his bones, I didn’t need him to try and show me proof mid-match.”

Another joked about his composed response to the injury: “Ryan Yates just giving the bench a quick wave.”

A third supporter summed up the general feeling perfectly: “Ryan Yates dislocating his finger to a 90 degree angle and just having a smile about it then cracking on with the game. Hard as nails. Proper footballer. My captain.”

Unfortunately, Yates’ bravery meant he was on the pitch to witness Kerem Akturkoglu pull one back for the Turkish side, reducing Forest’s aggregate lead to 3-1.
