Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne has been handed a one-game suspension after punching a Detroit Lions star on Sunday.

After the Commanders defense gave up a touchdown run to Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs, the frustrated Washington players lashed out.

Commanders star Payne senselessly punched Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in the face leading to players on both teams clashing.

On Monday, the NFL released a statement which read: ‘Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne has been suspended without pay for one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

‘Payne will be eligible to return to the Commanders’ active roster on Monday, Nov. 17, following the team’s Nov. 16 game in Madrid against the Miami Dolphins.

‘Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Payne may appeal the suspension’.
