The Baltimore Orioles have fired manager Brandon Hyde a little more than a month into the Major League Baseball season after a dreadful start to their campaign.

Hyde had been the skipper in the Charm City since 2019 and oversaw the Orioles turnaround from one of the worst in baseball to a playoff team.

Baltimore’s regression with a 15-28 record thus far in 2025 has led to the switch, as the Orioles try to keep pace with the Yankees.

Hyde’s last game in charge in Baltimore was Friday night’s loss to their regional rivals, the Washington Nationals

Before the interleague defeat, the Orioles were swept by the Minnesota Twins.

Earlier this month, Baltimore general manager Mike Elias spoke highly of Hyde and his long-term ability to right the ship. He then watched the Orioles lose 10 of their following 13 games, leading to the pink slip.

Hyde entered the season with plenty of job security as the Orioles had made the postseason each of the last two years. In 2023, Baltimore won 101 games, breaking a 43-year streak without triple-digit regular-season wins.

In the postseason, the Orioles did not win a single game under Hyde’s tenure.

The Texas Rangers swept Baltimore in the Divisional round two seasons ago en route to winning the World Series, including defeating the Orioles twice at Camden Yards.

Last year, the Orioles were knocked out of the playoffs in the Wild Card round by the Kansas City Royals.

Hyde is the third MLB manager to be fired this season after Pittsburgh dumped Derek Shelton and the league-worst Colorado Rockies let go Bud Black.
