Two men have admitted the “shocking and violent” murder of another man in Inverclyde.

Michael Beaton, 35, was run over by a car and then attacked with a bladed weapon in Greenock’s Drumfrochar Road on 26 November 2023.

He was found with serious injuries and taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he later died.

Richard Mullan, 21, pleaded guilty to murder at the High Court in Glasgow in November last year.

Co-accused Alexander McQuillan, 27, pleaded guilty to murder at the same court on Tuesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie said: “This was a shocking and violent attack which has resulted in the death of a man.

“McQuillan and Mullan will now face the consequences of their actions.

“Our thoughts remain with Michael’s family and I hope the convictions bring them some level of comfort.

“Violent incidents such as this are not tolerated and officers will continue to work to bring those responsible to justice.”
