Mark Selby secured a £250,000 jackpot after beating Judd Trump 10-8 to win the UK Snooker Championship on Sunday evening at the Barbican in York.

The 42-year-old secured glory on Sunday to etch his name into the history books and win a third UK Championship.

It is the 15th time the Englishman has appeared in the final of one of snooker’s prestigious Triple Crown events.

He produced an almost flawless display of snooker over the first five frames, leading Trump 5-0.

Sebly was made to wait by Trump to secure glory in the competition on Sunday, with the latter taking three frames despite a miserable performance.

The new UK Champion finished the first session 6-2 up following the afternoon play before finishing the job in the evening.

The best-of-19 frame match started as an incredibly one-sided affair between the two Englishmen.

The Leicester man made a 77 clearance from behind to pinch the first frame from Trump.

He went on to claim the second and won the third from a break of 97.

The fourth and the fifth were taken by Selby, giving him a commanding lead.

Trump managed to give himself some hope with runs of 74 and 75.

But it was Selby who won the final frame of the afternoon session, leaving the score 6-2.

After the break, it was Selby who continued his fine form to go five in front again.

Momentum then shifted when Trump won the next three frames before the interval.

A huge talking point would have centred around a snooker escape which saw Selby given a free ball after failing to escape twice.

In a sign of remarkable sportsmanship, Selby agrees with Trump that it’s not a free ball and allows his competitor to not only escape the snooker but fluke a red in.

The referee was ultimately right with his initial decision, and Trump went on to win the frame.

When the players re-emerged for the final session, it was game on with the scores at 7-4 to Selby.

After spending the short interval at the practice table, Selby made it 8-4, with a break of 91, but Trump quickly fired back with a century to claw his way back into the match.

Despite some unforgivable misses, virtually handing Trump his seventh frame, before winning his ninth.

It looked like the match was all wrapped up until Selby missed another straightforward pot, giving Trump another lifeline.

But the Jester from Leicester managed to secure the victory with a break of 102 for the final frame.

Sebly has now claimed the £250,000 jackpot, with Trump pocketting £100,000 for achieving second.

A total of £1,205,000 was up for grabs.

Semi-finalists secured £50,000, while quarter-finalists took home £25,000.

Between the 2012 and 2017 seasons, Selby was a dominant force in the game.

During that five-year period, the Jester from Leicester topped the world rankings.

He collected two UK crowns, one Masters title and triumphed three times at the Crucible.

Sunday night’s win earns the snooker star his 10th Triple Crown success.

The win is also significant for Trump’s record, as before tonight, he had won at least one tournament in every calendar year since 2013.

Selby is now fourth on the all-time list in triple crown titles, cementing himself as one of the game’s greats.
