A 35-year-old man from Sussex has been arrested as part of an investigation into Islamist terrorism.
Officers detained the resident of Eastbourne earlier today on suspicion of voicing support for Daesh, the proscribed terrorist organisation also known as Islamic State.
The arrest stems from an inquiry into content posted on social media platforms.
Sussex Police provided assistance during the operation, which was coordinated by specialist counter-terrorism officers.
The suspect remains in police custody following his detention under section 12 (1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000, which makes it an offence to express opinions supportive of banned organisations.
Investigators are continuing to search a property in the seaside town as the inquiry progresses.
The operation was carefully planned in advance, with counter-terrorism specialists leading the coordinated effort alongside local police resources.
Authorities have confirmed the investigation centres on alleged expressions of support for the banned extremist group through online channels.

GETTYThe specific charge relates to section 12 (1A) of the Terrorism Act 2000, which criminalises publicly voicing backing for proscribed organisations such as Daesh.
Ch Supt Justin Burtenshaw of Sussex Police sought to reassure local residents following the arrest.
He said: “I appreciate arrests of this nature can cause people in the local community to feel unsettled however Sussex Police has been working closely to support our colleagues in Counter Terrorism Policing South East as part of this pre-planned operation.
“There is not believed to be any immediate risk to those in the community but I would urge anyone who has any concerns to contact police.”
