Raymond Connolly, the husband of the woman jailed for a tweet, has claimed that his wife is being “made an example of” under the UK’s “two tier justice system.”

Lucy Connolly’s appeal against her 31-month prison sentence was rejected by three judges on Tuesday

The mother of three had been jailed last October after admitting to inciting racial hatred through a social media post about migrant hotels.

Raymond Connolly told GB News in an exclusive interview “I see on the TV in the paper that there is a really big inconsistency. I am going to take it personally. I look at Lucy and I just think that they are making a big example of her.

“Even today I was walking in the shop and people were looking at me. They came up to me and said are you Ray Connolly? They were so harsh with you’re wife.”

He added: “We have a government that just do what they want to do. If anybody doesn’t like it then, as Keir Starmer has said, leave. It is just intimidation.”

Raymond Connolly, who recently lost his West Northamptonshire district seat earlier this month but remains a town councillor, has stood by his wife throughout the ordeal.

Speaking to Michelle Dewberry he explained that he “does not see his wife as a far-right thug.”

He explained: “In the prison itself, the girls in there were saying ‘they are all over you’ she has got this poster girl image of being the poster girl of the far-right.

“Every TV channel, every newspaper, reported it. She went into her trial without a chance.”
