The King and Queen arrived at the Vatican this morning, where they were greeted with a short ceremony as the Swiss Guards played the UK national anthem.
Inside, the Royals met with Pope Leo XIV and exchanged gifts the King presented a photograph and an icon of St Edward the Confessor, while the Pope gave a mosaic of Christ Pantocrator in return.
The couple then attended prayers in the Sistine Chapel, beginning with the Lord’s Prayer. It marked the first time the head of the Church of England has prayed publicly with a Pope.
Following the ceremony, the King and Pope held a short meeting focused on sustainability, joined by representatives from climate organisations.
The King is now on his way to his next engagement at St Paul’s Outside the Walls, where he will see a specially designed chair created for his visit.
