LAHORE/QUETTA:

The Jaffar Express scheduled to depart from Quetta for Peshawar on Wednesday was cancelled, the railway officials confirmed, adding that services will remain suspended for the next three days as repair work continues on the damaged track.

Authorities confirmed that the passengers have been given full refunds.

A day earlier, a railway track in the Dasht area was hit by a powerful explosion, targeting the Jaffar Express. The blast caused four bogies to derail and left nearly a dozen passengers injured, including women and children.

Rescue and recovery operations were launched soon after the incident. Heavy machinery had been deployed to restore the track, while derailed coaches were being lifted and the damaged bogies removed.

Railway officials said both the Jaffar Express and Bolan Express services remain suspended and would only resume once the track has been fully restored.

Separately, Fareed Express, traveling from Lahore to Karachi, derailed while entering platform two at Kotri Railway Junction. Three bogies of the train were derailed.

Railway staff and cranes had been called in to restore the derailed coaches. Meanwhile, passengers from the affected coaches were shifted to other compartments.

According to sources of The Express Tribune, more than 200 incidents of train derailment have been reported each year.
