Jack Wilshere found himself at the centre of ugly scenes at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, requiring his own players to physically pull him away from irate Luton Town supporters.

The 34-year-old manager appeared to engage in a heated exchange with a fan near the tunnel following his side’s frustrating 1-1 draw against Burton Albion.

Video footage captured the former England international looking visibly furious as he confronted the home end, with several squad members attempting to usher him towards the dressing room.

One supporter who recorded the incident remarked: “You can see Wilshere at the end, biting back. Need to sort it out. That’s not good at all.”

The home faithful made their displeasure abundantly clear, directing chants of “you are embarrassing” towards the players and management as the final whistle blew.

Boos echoed around the ground after Luton squandered what appeared to be a comfortable victory, with Fabio Tavares striking in stoppage time to rescue a point for the visitors.

The result extended the Hatters’ winless streak to three consecutive matches, following defeats away to Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic.

Burton arrived at Kenilworth Road sitting 20th in the League One table, making the dropped points particularly galling for supporters.

Luton now find themselves six points adrift of the play-off positions.

Wilshere expressed sympathy for the supporters’ anger whilst simultaneously appealing for solidarity during this difficult period.

“First of all, I understand their frustrations, I do. I’ve said that a lot, but right now we need them,” he stated after the match.

The former Arsenal star insisted his squad were putting in maximum effort despite their struggles.

“It’s not for a lack of the players trying, they’re giving everything every single day,” he explained. “I think you can see that the players are really lacking belief, they’re lacking confidence.”

He emphasised that booing from the opening minute only compounds the team’s difficulties, urging everyone connected with the club to remain united.

Wilshere assumed control of the Hatters in October, stepping into the role vacated by Matt Bloomfield following a disappointing start to the campaign.

Upon his arrival, Luton sat 11th with 16 points from 11 fixtures, and whilst they have risen one position since, progress has been modest.

His league record stands at eight victories from 22 matches, with an equal number of defeats and six draws.

The club, which competed in the Premier League as recently as the 2023/24 season, now faces Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy quarter-final on Tuesday before travelling to bottom side Port Vale next Saturday.
