- Jack Draper moves into the last 16 after power cut causes havoc to schedule
- It’s not all good news for Brits though as Jacob Fearnley and Cam Norrie are out
The lights are back on at the Madrid Open and Jack Draper is the last Brit standing after his opponent Matteo Berrettini retired.
The massive power cut wiped out most of Monday’s action and a packed schedule on Tuesday saw Jacob Fearnley and Cam Norrie knocked out.
Fearnley resumed trailing Grigor Dimitrov by a set and 5-4, eventually losing in a tiebreak.
Norrie missed a big opportunity, winning the first set but going down in three against Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo.
Draper won the first set 7-6 and Berrettini packed it in, struggling with an abdominal injury.
The British world No 6 will play American Tommy Paul on Wednesday in the last 16.

Britain’s Jack Draper is just two matches away from breaking into the world’s top five

Next up for Draper is Tommy Paul as the Brit tries to show he can be a force on clay courts
‘He said his abs were pulling,’ Draper said of Berrettini after the match.
‘Credit to him for coming out here and putting on a good first set.
‘In general, Matteo is a very positive player. So it’s always tough to see a friend having an injury. I know it’s plagued him a lot.’
Asked about the power outage, Draper added: ‘I actually enjoyed it. It was so nice to have no phones and none of that other bulls*** going on in the world. I ended up reading four pages of a book; no, actually 10 pages. Usually I don’t read at all.’
