Arsenal fans have reacted with disbelief after a post match interview question put to Eberechi Eze appeared to downplay the midfielder’s stunning goal in England’s 2–0 win over Serbia at Wembley.
Eze, who curled a superb effort into the top corner in the 90th minute to seal victory, was asked by ITV reporter Gabriel Clarke whether the routine pass from Phil Foden that preceded the strike had been “the key” to the goal.
The suggestion prompted frustration from Arsenal supporters on social media, many of whom felt Eze’s individual brilliance had been overshadowed.
One user on X wrote: “Not gaslight a 5 yard pass. If Foden scored with an Eze pass would never be asked that question.”
Another posted simply: “Wow, just wow.”
A third asked: “How was the ‘key’ to that goal Phil’s pass?”
Another fan joked: “I thought it was amazing that Arsenal fans have got me siding with Sunderland on here last week. Even more incredible that Gabriel Clarke has got me siding with Arsenal fans. Outrageous.”
Eze’s strike followed an equally impressive opener from team mate Bukayo Saka, whose sharp finish helped Thomas Tuchel’s side continue their flawless World Cup qualifying campaign.

England have now confirmed top spot in Group K ahead of their final match against Albania.
Tuchel’s team selection drew attention before kick off, with the England head coach reiterating his belief that the national side must prioritise balance rather than trying to fit all its most recognisable names into the starting XI.
That principle was reflected in his decision to begin with Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham on the bench.
Foden later replaced Harry Kane and was praised for his display in a false nine role, while Bellingham also made an impact after coming on.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel doubled down on his commitment to building a cohesive squad rather than relying solely on individual star power.
“This is not about building a starting XI, it’s about building a team,” he said.
“They’re all big players in their club, they’re all used to play, they’re all disappointed.
“This is normal, but they buy into this idea of building a team and this is what we need.
“Only if we’re a strong group who can put ego behind and contribute can we give the coach a headache for the next match.”
England, already qualified for next summer’s tournament in North America, now travel to Tirana with an unblemished record and a squad that appears increasingly confident in Tuchel’s collective approach.

Eze, meanwhile, expressed his delight after finding the net for his country.
“Another good performance,” stated the Arsenal star.
“It was important to get the win.
“I’m happy to score and help the team which is important.
“There’s a lot of talent in the team. You can see the players here and the types that aren’t here as well.
“It’s the type of competition you want to be up against and it is going to help the team for sure.”
