Former professional boxer Spencer Oliver has spoken out following news Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mr Oliver, who has known Mr Joshua since he began boxing at Finchley ABC, said the former world champion sustained minor injuries and is now stable in hospital. Sadly, two people in the car with him have died.

He added: “I know Anthony Joshua quite well, he started boxing at Finchley ABC, the gym run by my father, Jim, and my uncle John.

“They trained him until he won the Olympic gold medal. My relationship with him goes back to when he was an 18-year-old kid, right up until today.”

Dawn said: “How do you think he will cope with this?”

Mr Oliver said: “It’s a horrible situation. Anthony is a very emotional guy, and this isn’t going to be easy for him.
