AFL legend Iain ‘Fingers’ Findlay could spend as much as five weeks recovering in hospital after the 77-year-old was the victim of a horrific alleged hit-and-run.
Findlay is a much-loved member of the footy community and has previously worked as an advocate representing players at the AFL tribunal.
The Vietnam War veteran and former police detective explained a man had thrown rocks at his car while he was driving down Melbourne’s Monash Freeway.
Findlay said he exited his car before the other man allegedly rammed his car into him, trapping him underneath the vehicle.
He claims the man continued to drive for around 80 metres down the freeway, dragging him underneath the vehicle.

Findlay suffered multiple horrific wounds as a result of the alleged incident, including a painful burn on the front of his leg.

‘A guy pulled up and threw a rock at the car, so I tried to push him over to the side to get his details,’ Findlay told Channel Seven from his hospital bed.
‘And as I got out of the car, he gunned his car straight at me, smashed into me, drove over the top of me, trapped me and drove down the freeway for about 80 metres with me underneath the car.’
A doctor and a nurse stopped at the scene and proceeded to help the stricken footy favourite.
The driver of the other vehicle allegedly continued to drive away from the scene of the incident before other road users stopped him, and was later arrested by police, according to the report.
Victoria Police said are now investigating the alleged incident and have appealed to witnesses for information.
They added that a 19-year-old man is expected to be charged.

‘It is understood the driver of a Lexus sedan exited his vehicle and went to confront the driver of a Toyota Yaris before he was struck by the vehicle,’ a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
‘Investigators believe the drivers were involved in a road rage incident prior to the collision.
‘The driver of the Lexus, a 77-year-old man, was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
‘The driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old man, fled the scene before he was stopped by good Samaritans a short distance away and arrested by police.’
