Federal immigration officials reveal the man who attacked a female jogger with a hammer and planned to kidnap her was living in the US illegally and had previous run-ins with police.

The unnamed victim had been jogging at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano, Texas- a Dallas suburb- when witnesses called 911 to report the bloody attack.

A man chased after the woman with a hammer Thursday around 5 in the evening, the Plano Police Department confirmed to Daily Mail.

The attacker savagely hit the woman with the hammer at least twice, but she was still able to fight him off.

Sergio Noe de Nova Duarte, 17, also had duct taped with him and planned to kidnap the woman, a spokeswoman for the department said.

‘He then was trying to restrain her utilizing duct tape,’ Plano Police Det. Alexandra Cole told Daily Mail Monday.

‘She was able to fight back and that’s how he ended up fleeing the scene. It could have been way worse. We don’t know what his plans were from there.’

The victim was treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injures.

In a Georgia case, nursing student Laken Riley was found dead Feb. 22, 2024 while out running at the University of Georgia’s campus.

Venezuelan migrant Jose Ibarra, 27, was found guilty of murdering her and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Meanwhile, Duarte was traced back to a residence in Plano where he was arrested later that same day.

Now, Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirms Durate had been living in the US illegally for nearly a decade.

He first came to the US in 2016, when he was 9, on a B2 visitor’s visa, the agency shared.

The tourist visa required him to leave by September 17, 2016.

Instead of leaving, the Mexican teen was arrested on burglary and larceny in 2024 when he was just 16, ICE told Daily Mail.

Following his arrest last year, Durate was taken into ICE custody but later released with a notice to appear before an immigration judge with a court date set in 2026.

‘This criminal illegal alien should have never been loose in our communities to attack this woman jogging in a park with a hammer,’ ICE Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said.

‘Following this illegal alien’s arrest in 2024, the Biden administration released this criminal illegal alien back into our communities. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE lodged an arrest detainer to ensure this criminal illegal alien is NEVER able to prey on innocent women in our country again.’

Plano Police said they had no record of Durate’s previous arrest history, however, when he was arrested Thursday and fingerprinted, ICE had already flagged him for removal.
