Drivers are being warned of two major accidents on the roads this morning, with long delays and diversions expected.
National Highways has warned that the westbound carriageway of the A14 in Suffolk remains closed between J55 near Copdock and J52 near Claydon.
Two heavy goods vehicles were involved in a serious collision last night, which resulted in a “significant diesel spillage” across lanes one and two.
Suffolk Police confirmed that it was conducting a collision investigation, which will be followed by recovery of the vehicle and treatment of the diesel spillage.
National Highways warned that the A14 road closure is expected to remain in place for “several further hours”.
Posting on social media, Suffolk Police confirmed that it was attending the scene of the accident near Ipswich, alongside the air ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.
Police also confirmed that a lorry driver was being treated in hospital for “potentially serious injuries”.
The transport organisation has confirmed that a diversion route has been installed, although vehicles over 7.5 tonnes cannot use this route, and they must follow local signage instead.

Motorists are also facing long delays on the A3 southbound in Surrey between the A31 (Guildford) and the A333 (Grayshott/Haslemere) after a serious collision just before Hindhead Tunnel.
The incident, which was first reported at 6am this morning, saw the busy road closed in both directions for emergency services to respond.
Surrey Police have completed their investigations, with the northbound carriageway reopening after emergency repairs to the central reservation.
The southbound carriageway remains closed so recovery teams can “clear debris and treat a spillage from the collision”. National Highways stated that it could not estimate a re-opening time.
