A California woman was left horrified after her precious pup ingested methamphetamine on their daily walk.

The nightmare unfolded on October 20, when pet owner, Nancy, was taking her two dogs Arah and Tobie on their morning walk in Laurel Park in Los Alamitos.

When she arrived back home, she noticed Tobie was acting unusual – she was shaking and twitching.

‘When we got home, she was just sitting there, and I was trying to call her, and she wouldn’t come, and she wouldn’t let me touch her,’ she told ABC7.

‘She didn’t want to eat treats, then she started just twitching and just doing a mouth thing, and I thought she was maybe having a seizure.’

Tobie appeared visibly distressed, so the concerned owner rushed to the veterinarian for answers.

They took her pooch’s temperature, only to find out Tobie’s body temperature was an alarming 108 degrees.

‘She told me in her practice, she’s never seen a 108. She’s only seen a 106 in 30 years of practice’ Nancy told the local outlet.

Tobie was sent to the emergency room where it was revealed she had methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system, and was later hospitalized.

The pup’s body temperature was so high that she could have had severe brain damage if Nancy had waited any longer.

‘Her heart rate was 200. I just can’t imagine if I hadn’t got her in when I did,’ she said.

Nancy was in disarray after her usual morning walk took such a vile turn, telling the outlet: ‘We do it every day. It’s our usual pattern, so it just freaked me out.’

Nancy reported the horror to the Los Alamitos Police Department and the city manager – concerned that the drug residue could affect other pets or children in the park.

‘There’s an elementary school right there, and you know, it’s scary,’ she said.

‘My vet said they could’ve just stepped in some powder and licked their paws,’ explaining that a little amount of the toxic drug is enough to severely hurt someone.

‘They could’ve just sniffed it and licked their nose, so it’s just very concerning. I mean, it could’ve been a kid.’

Nancy hopes her story bring awareness to other dog owners and park goers, and fortunately, Tobie is back to her healthy self.
