Sir David Beckham has proven that his bond with his middle son, Romeo, remains stronger than ever as he publicly poked fun at the 23-year-old.

On Sunday, almost one week on from eldest son Brooklyn, 26, severing ties with his parents over allegedly “controlling” behaviour, Sir David took to Instagram to mock Romeo over his favourite football team’s loss.

Romeo is an avid Arsenal fan, and on Sunday afternoon, the Gunners lost 3-2 in front of a home crowd at the hands of Manchester United, the team his dad famously played for.

An own goal from Lisandro Martinez and a close-range effort from Mikel Merino weren’t enough for Mikel Arteta’s men to see off the Red Devils.

The travelling fans joined Sir David in celebrating a United win thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, and a last-gasp effort from Matheus Cunha.

Rubbing salt in the wound of his second-oldest son, Sir David shared a throwback snap of himself celebrating a goal for Manchester United. “You ok Romeo?? @romeobeckham,” Sir David penned alongside white, black and red love heart emojis.

Not taking the cheeky jibe lying down, Romeo replied with a screenshot of the current Premier League table, with Arsenal sitting in the number one spot ahead of Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Man United.

Romeo tagged his father in his retort, along with the message: “Don’t get too gassed. Mind the gap.”

He stated to US network CNBC: “I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media… For the good and for the bad.

“What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.

“I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for Unicef. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.

“And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them.

“They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”

He added: “You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

Victoria is said to have been left “devastated” when she first read her son’s accusations, which included a claim that she danced inappropriately “on” her son during his wedding day to Nicola Peltz.

Brooklyn branded the incident as “humiliating” and claimed his parents have been trying to ruin his marriage to the billionaire heiress.

A source told the Mirror: “Victoria feels betrayed because she’d done everything she can to make them both feel welcome and Nicola like another daughter. But she feels it’s been thrown back in her face.”

Despite the fallout, sources claim David and Victoria would “take Brooklyn back in a minute” and are “horrified” by events, with insiders suggesting they believe time will eventually heal the rift.
