Tim Pusey has been told his nickname will be banned when he plays in the World Championship at Alexander Palace.

The Ally Pally is known for its raucous crowd and the organisers have decided that Pusey’s nickname, “The Magnet”, will be a step too far for darts showpiece event.

On the surface, his nickname does not seem too concerning, but when paired with his surname, organisers are concerned the crowd will simply have too much fun with the Australian.

The 33-year-old revealed: “’I don’t have any of that on my shirt. I’ll have to find a new one and maybe we’ll have to put it to a poll and get something.

“It’s hard because anything can be turned (laughs)… at the moment I don’t have any and the chants can be colourful,” he told Tungsten Tales.

Despite the intervention from the PDC Chiefs, darts fans are known for being able to make chants out of anything. This was shown earlier this year in Wollongong, when chants of “Oh Pusey we love you” rang out as the Australian ace was playing.

One person who is less than impressed with the PDC’s choice is Ally McCoist.

He fumed about the decision on his talkSPORT show, saying: “He’s got to keep it, come on!

“He’s keeping it. It’s the best nickname. I love it man, it’s hilarious!

“Where’s your sense of humour, darts people? Come on, man.”

This is not the only time that the PDC has banned a name from a raucous crowd.

World No80 Owen Bates was previously banned from using his nickname “The Master”.

Pusey confirmed his place in the World Championships in September when he secured first place in the Australian Darts Tour rankings.

When does the World Darts Championship start?

The tournament is set to begin in London on December 11, with the final taking place on January 3.

Last year, Luke Littler won his first world title when he beat The Green Machine Michael van Gerwen, 7-3 in what was just the beginning of his meteoric rise to the top of the darting world.

Littler has the chance to take the No1 ranking in the PDC this weekend when he plays in the European Championship.

He currently sits £70,000 behind Cool Hand Luke Humphries in the battle for the top spot, with £120,000 up for grabs in Dortmund this weekend.

Should Littler take the win, he will become the youngest ever player to be ranked No1 on the PDC rankings.
